Learn about the midwife who delivered a 1000 babies at the April meeting



Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. South Grey Museum, Flesherton 

Jean Hutchinson, author of Country Midwife: The Story of Elizabeth Harvey Ward, will share the story of Elizabeth Nuhn who delivered over 1000 babies born in South Grey County between 1924 and 1954. Born in 1884, Elizabeth Harvey was part of a big farm family. In 1903, she married Hazard Ward and they had four daughters. He died while one was still at home. She sold the farm and moved to town and assisted Dr. Milne in his work. Elizabeth married Mr. Nuhn who she had gone to care for. In 1934, she specialized in obstetrics Elizabeth ran the Nuhn Nursing Home for many years. Jean Hutchinson married William Hutchinson, the grandson of Elizabeth Nuhn. She wrote the book so that Elizabeth’s history would not be lost. She wanted Elizabeth’s great grandchildren to know how special Gramma Nuhn was.

A brief annual meeting will be held at the end of the regular meeting where the slate of board of members will be presented.
